On 21st May the meeting was entitled “It’s grim up North!” This was a suitcase collection of quilts made and provided by the New Quilters’ Guild. It comprised of 31 quilts inspired by the title. The quilts were perused, discussed and admired by the group.

On 4th June Mike Fitchett visited and gave a talk “Travels with my sketchbook.” Mike has travelled all over the world sketching scenes and places which he transfers onto fabric and makes them into beautiful quilts which are enchanting and original. Read a post about his talk.

On 7th May the group had a planning and discussion evening for their forthcoming Ruby Anniversary Quilt Exhibition which took place in Congleton Town Hall on 28th and 29th June. The exhibition displayed fabulous quilts and amazing patchwork made by its members and it was also a chance to celebrate 40 years of the groups’ creativity in Congleton. Many handmade items were contributed by members for a sales table. Group projects and examples of work completed by members were exhibited. Items for a tombola were donated and a quilt with a Ruby theme had been made by the group along with other patchwork items, for the raffle prizes. Following the Ruby theme, proceeds from the raffle, which is to be drawn on Tuesday 24th September, will be donated to Ruby’s Fund – a local charity supporting children with special needs.

On Tuesday July 16th the group celebrated their 40 years Ruby Anniversary with a party held at Wellspring church. Members were encouraged to wear red, and to bring along buffet food which was washed down by non alcoholic sparkling Ruby cordial! Three founder members were presented with gifts and a lifetime honorary membership, in recognition for their long service, loyalty and attendance to the group. A photograph was taken of members who were present, which will be put in the group archives for posterity! The party was a great success and was enjoyed by all.

The group is now taking a summer holiday break until 10th September when the Autumn programme will begin.
