A memorable year for Beartown Patchwork and Quilters – the group quilt – “Rust Collective” – won first prize! Thanks must go to Ruth Axon who organised its design and construction.

I think it stood out in the winners gallery – best in show! Though obviously I’m biased.
Several people entered quilts in this year’s festival.
Val Lancaster entered her Magic Tile Bonzana quilt in the Novice category and was Short Listed. Her entry was double sided. Great work Val!

Donna Hanmer was inspired by the works Mike Fitchett showed in his talk “Travels with my sketch book” A trip to Dunkerque and a walk on the seafront gave her the ideas to create her own railway postcard quilt! The scene depicts the 1940’s life guard building and a row of lifeguard huts.

Frances Woodgate entered her “Flora Opulence” in the Two person Quilt category and was awarded 3rd place. She thanked Caitriona for her beautiful long arm quilting.

I entered a very special quilt in the Joy of Sharing category. My very good friend Marta had started hand sewing together clam shells in the 1980s. I saw her progress 10 years ago and was awestruck! Sadly Marta was diagnosed with bone cancer in the summer 2024 and died at the beginning of 2025. She had asked me to finish it. So to display this wonderful work of art, I squared it up, added a frame, used her excess material for a backing, then hand quilted/knotted the two together.

It was lovely to see everybodies efforts on display. Here’s a slide show of the some of the quilts I admired or amused me.
And finally a photo of our trophy. The Rust Collective quilt is now on its travels around the country.
