On 21st October, speaker Tina Saunders entertained the group with “An Embroiderer’s Tale,” in the form of a slide show and also some examples of her work that she’d been able to bring in person. After leaving school, Tina trained at the Royal School of Needlework in London and later worked for Jimmy Choo, embroidering shoes! Eventually, she started a job at Buckingham Palace as a dresser to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Tina had slides of many of the outfits she’d worked on, worn by the late Queen. Nowadays, Tina lives on the Wirral, teaching and giving fascinating talks including an insight into a working life at the Palace.

On 4th November, the meeting was a Four Corners evening with four different techniques, demonstrated by four different members. Here’s photos from 2 of the corners – Reverse appliqué with Anne Carter
and Chenille with Sarah Bradney.

Quilt as you go was demonstrated/explained by Ruth Garner and Chris Flatman

Blocks made by members for the next group quilt were handed in so it can be assembled together.

On 18th November, kits were provided for members to make a Christmas angel decoration.

Show and tell included four more quilts for the care leavers charity (Q4CL), totalling around 130 so far, made by Beartown members.(photos taken from our facebook page)

Pieces of Xmas fabric were handed out for members to make something for the next meeting, to be wrapped as a gift for another person to receive.

The Christmas party was on 2nd December, the last meeting for the year. After notices and show and tell, members enjoyed a feast of delectable dishes, brought in by everyone. Afterwards, there was a draw for several prizes and then the distribution of gifts, made from the fabric given out at the last meeting. Admire all the creations in the post Secret santa 2025. This rounded up a very enjoyable and productive year, the highlight of which was winning the group quilt category at The Festival of Quilts at the N.E.C. in Birmingham in the summer.

Meetings will resume in 2026 on Tuesday, 6th January when 2025’s post card challenge will be on show.
