The autumn meetings of Beartown Patchworkers & Quilters began on 9th September with a new group quilt project. Members dyed some cotton fabric and took it home to rinse out, wash and press, before returning it to have a fusible interfacing attached.

At the next meeting on 23rd September, members cut out dyed shapes to be bonded onto a black background fabric and stitched into place. The group recently won the Group category at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, so it’ll be a hard act to follow for next year.

On the 6th September, several members attended a workshop with textile artist Lizzie Wall and made fabric pictures based on squirrels.

At the end of the day fancy squirrels were emerging…..

And one finished one was brought along to the first meeting.

On the 17th September, five members represented the group at Upton P’s and Q’s, near Chester. They took along dozens of quilts, wall hangings and bags for a very successful “Meet the Neighbours” show and tell.
The next meeting will be on 7th October with a talk by Helen Hayes about Linus quilts and on the 21st October Tina Saunders, previously a dresser to the late Queen Elizabeth ll, will present “An Embroiderer’s Tale.”
For the 4th November meeting there will be four different demonstrations of patchwork and quilting techniques and a Christmas make will be on the 18th November. Rounding off the year will be the Christmas party on 2nd December.
