Andea gave an interesting talk on “Making Memories” at Beartown’s first meeting in September.

She had brought along examples that she had lovingly created.

Here’s a few close ups

The second September Meeting at Beartown Patchwork and Quilters had Andrea demonstrating how to make these little treasures. As her sanctuaries were based on being a portable shrine, she started with a relaxing meditation session, in which the group was uncharacteristically quiet for a few moments! Nicely so though.

Andrea had brought a table full of useful additions for everyone to embellish their pocket-sized roll which would include a little place for a particular treasure. She provided a template and full instructions. Members had brought their own outer and inner fabrics and wadding. People then happily slow stitched, fuelled by tea and cake of course! Everyone’s pieces were so different and each inspired by memories or thoughts which were individual to them.

Here’s one of Andrea’s finished ones

We are all looking forward to viewing finished memories and would like to thank Andrea for sharing her idea with us.

At the 29th September meeting we saw 3 people’s finished pocket sanctuaries.

Donna’s were based on her camper van “Bumble” and the places they’d visited in it.

Anne Carter really got into the vibe and made 2! One to remind her of her time in Australia using aboriginal inspired fabric and photos in the pocket. The other to remind her of a visit to America with her sister using native American Indian inspired fabric and memories of her sister – rings, lock of hair. mementos…

Catherine said she wasn’t sentimental and made it into a needle container!
