The 2025 autumn meetings of Beartown Patchworkers & Quilters began on 9th September with a new group quilt project. Members dyed some cotton fabric and took it home to rinse out, wash and press, before returning it to have a fusible interfacing attached.

At the next meeting on 23rd September, dyed shapes were cut out. Members chose 3 or 5 shapes and took them home to be arranged and stitched onto a black background fabric, then quilted, by hand or machine, as they wished.

At 4th November meeting, the 64 mini quilts were handed in and arranged ready for assembly. Everyone was encouraged to contribute their say in the final grouping.

The pieces were carefully numbered and taken by a member to be sewn together, using the quilt as you go method. The quilt was then bound – all ready to be entered in the April 2026 British Stitch and Quilt Show held at the Uttoxeter Racecourse in Staffordshire. A title was decided upon and a description written for the show’s catalogue.

And much to the groups’ delight it won the Group Category ! Helen and Val went up to receive the celebratory plaque at the Sunday’s award ceremony.

A lovely, collaborative, upcycled project. A big thanks to Val, Helen and Ruth for organising it.

When the quilt was collected, the judges comment slips showed it received mainly excellent ticks.

Well done everyone!
